Prayer Walk Update

30 07 2010

Yesterday at 4 PM it was AWESOME to share some prayer time without about 30 Elementers who were able to make it out.  We started in the worship center and finished our 96 hour Bible reading.  We read the final chapter of Revelation together as a group.  I LOVED having the Scriptures read and prayed over our worship center for this month.  How awesome to literally spread God’s Word over our church from cover to cover.  Some of the prayers in the prayer journal that God moved on to people’s hearts are stirring.  LOVE IT!  After we read Revelation 22, we headed out for our Jericho prayer walk.  We walked around our property 7 times (1/2 a mile one time around) in the middle of a consistent light rain.  Some of our people walked around the building only, others walked inside the church and a large group made the trek around the property.  We prayed for LIFE and IMPACT to be offered at our church.  We claimed that territory for God.  It was inspiring.  Had one of our Elementers stopping in various places to pray on their knees.  One dad was carrying his son on his shoulders the entire way.  It was really cool.  What a GREAT way to end our month on some more focused times of prayer.  Already talking about how to keep the focus on prayer continued, and when we could do something like this again!  “Lord, make us a people of prayer!”

Till the end,

Jeff

Prayer Walk

29 07 2010

Hey Element Church.  Don’t forget that today at 4 PM we’re going to end our 96 hours of Bible & Prayer with a prayer walk around our entire property.  It’s been an awesome month of focused energy on the Bible and prayer.  Thank you to everyone who has given up an hour here and there to read the Scriptures and pray over our church each day.  Today, we’ll  be meeting in the worship center to read the last chapter of Revelation together (I think we’re on pace to finish today), then we’ll head outside to prayer walk.  We’re walking 7 times around our property, seeking God and praying THROUGH for His power, protection and will to be upon us.  We’re praying for BIG things to be done in HIS name.  If you can join us, then come out at 4 PM.  And if you can’t join us in person, wherever you are at at 4 PM, why don’t you join us in prayer?  To GOD be the glory!  Hope to see you out there.

Ready to pray,

Jeff

Debt Freedom…It’s REAL

27 07 2010

Tony Morgan, who is Pastor of Ministries at West Ridge Church in Georgia, as well as a strategist, coach, writer, speaker and consultant who equips leaders and churches to impact their communities for Christ, mentioned Element Church on his blog today.  Tony was talking about Joe Sangl and the impact his ministry is having on churches AND church attenders across the country from his Financial Learning Experience.  Joe, his book I Was Broke Now I’m Not, and his WILDLY popular website josephsangl.com, have been instrumental in personally helping my family get organized and free in our finances.  Here is what Tony had to say on his blog:

Recently, I shared the dream of Joe Sangl for all of the people in our churches to become debt free. Check out the post.

I asked him to share some stories of churches where he has taught the “Financial Learning Experience (FLE)”, an interactive part of his ministry, I Was Broke, Now I’m Not. Here’s a small sample of the impact of Joe’s programs at a few churches.

NewSpring Church – Anderson, SC (Pastor Perry Noble)

  • Over 7,300 have participated in the FLE, 1-on-1 financial counseling, or I Was Broke Now I’m Not group study.
  • Giving has increased substantially and literally hundreds have become debt-free.

The Cove Church – Mooresville, NC (Pastor Mike Madding)

  • 1,083 adults participated in the FLE.
  • Taught an additional 239 high school students.
  • Pastor Mike Madding called it a “financial revival” and said,  “What an amazing thing God did. Thank you for following God and pursuing His plan for your life. You are making a very real difference in people’s lives. God has used you to give our people hope and a path out of the financial chaos of their lives.”

Element Church – Cheyenne, WY (Pastor Jeff Maness)

  • Taught the FLE twice.
  • Giving increased immediately by 18% in 2009 and 20% in 2010 and many are achieving debt freedom.

Joe often says, “When people become financially free, they are much more likely to go do exactly what they have been put on Earth to do!”  That is what I Was Broke Now I’m Not is all about. For more stories of financial freedom experienced by churches and families, visit Joe’s blog.

To learn more about partnering with Joe, fill out the contact form and a member of their team will be in touch with you to start the conversation.

——–

I can’t agree more with Tony.  If you are personally struggling with debt and financial struggles, you need to read Joe’s book I Was Broke Now I’m Not RIGHT NOW!  Get on his (wildly popular) web-site and download his free budgeting tools and start using them NOW.  If you are a church pastor wondering if you should book Joe for a weekend training event, wonder no longer.  (And NO Joe did not ask me to post this)  I post this because IT STINKIN’ WORKS.  When you put God first in your finances and then TELL your money where to go each month by using a budget, you start to experience financial freedom.

One family from Element took the Financial Learning Experience (FLE) this past January, then submitted to the 90 day challenge at Element Church.  In 90 days they paid off $16,000 in consumer debt.  They are now moving on paying off their car loans, and soon will be completely debt free (home mortgage remaining).  PRAISE GOD!  The look in their eyes knowing debt freedom is ATTAINABLE was awesome!

Another couple, who was WAY over their heads in consumer and medical debt, attended the FLE and started their journey toward debt freedom.  They sold just about everything they could afford that they owned, paid off one car loan completely, settled on much of their overdue consumer debt, started paying down their medical debt, and as of today are headed toward debt freedom (home mortgage remaining) by December of 2011.  WOO HOO! And that is just two out of MANY people who have been helped in our church by Joe’s ministry.

Thanks Joe for all your work in helping people achieve far more than they ever dreamed possible with their money!  Keep chasing your dream!

Till the end,

Jeff

What Do We Really Want?

26 07 2010

I’ve been meditating on a passage of Scripture for some time now. Months to be exact.  I’ve wrestled with it.  Memorized it.  Read it again, and again, and again.  It is two verses on prayer that, I think, are a MUST in understanding a powerful and effective prayer life.  I’m still processing these verses and letting them sink deep within my heart, but I wanted to share where I’m at with them today.

Philippians 4:6-7 says this:  Don’t worry about anything but pray about everything.  Tell God what you need and thank Him for what He’s done.  THEN you will experience God’s peace which exceeds all understanding.  His peace will guard your  hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. (emphasis added)

When we pray, what is it we’re really looking for?  Why are we praying for it?  When I pray for healing, am I really seeking healing?  When I pray for a financial need to be met, is that really what I want?  When I pray for God to protect my children, is protection really my ultimate goal?  The more I think about prayer, the more I’m convinced we don’t really know what we want.

Prayers requests typically rise out of places in our hearts and lives where we don’t have peace.  I pray for a family member to be healed of cancer,  because ultimately I’m not at peace with losing them.  I pray for God to provide for me financially, because ultimately I’m not at peace with losing my home.  I pray for God to protect my children, because ultimately they are out of my control and all those things bring chaos to my spirit.  So notice what the Holy Spirit speaks through Paul.  I think we WISH it said something different, but if it said something different we wouldn’t get what we really want.

He says “Tell God what you need and thank Him for what He’s done.  THEN…” Then what?  THEN you will get what you ask for?  THEN your prayer will be answered? THEN you won’t need to ask for anything else?  NO…THEN you will experience God’s peace which exceeds all understanding. And God’s peace, I believe, is REALLY what we want.

Even if the family member is healed, I receive a raise and my children are always safe, there WILL be something else that will cause my spirit to spin in chaos.  I think it is PEACE that we ultimately desire and it is PEACE that God is desiring to give, WHEN WE PRAY!  I wonder if we’re just looking for the wrong answer?

So today…tell God what you need AND thank Him for what He’s done.  THEN, you too, can experience God’s peace which exceeds all understanding.  Go ahead.  Try it.  You might just receive what you REALLY want.

Seeking peace,

Jeff

Sunday Ruminations (7-25-10)

25 07 2010

Another great Sunday at Element Church is in the books.  I LOVE hangin’ out with the awesome people of Element EVERY week.  Can’t imagine spending my Sunday’s doing anything different.  Here are my ruminations on the day.

—  Loved seeing 2nd and 3rd service start filling back up with people.  But HOLY COW…first service peeps where you at?  First service was Element Light today.  lol

—  Had a bunch of first time guests today.  Love seeing new people come to church and feel welcomed, loved, accepted and find a place they can call “home”.  Our prayer for every guest is NOT that they would keep attending here, but that they would find a church where they can fit and flourish in ministry.

—  A few weeks ago we started something new when it comes to me meeting new people at Element, and its been PRICELESS.  We designated a special spot in the worship center, so that following each service ,I invite anyone who is a first time guest or who is new to Element who I have not had the privilege of meeting yet, to come and introduce themselves to me.  Not only have I got to connect with tons of our new people, but I’ve had some AMAZING conversations with people about their lives.  So cool!  Definitely wish we would have done something like that sooner.

—  Today I was able to meet three out of town guests who were visiting family who attend Element.  To hear the words of encouragement and affirmation about how glad they are that their family members here had found a church home like us is amazing.  One family from Tennessee, one from Texas and I believe the other from Florida.  I may not have had that opportunity otherwise were it not for opening it up to meet them.  Very cool.

—  Today we concluded our series on prayer called The Frayed.  I don’t know about anyone else, but this series was great for ME.  Definitely a timely one for my life and where God has me.  Here are some excerpts from the message:

  • We asked the question today “What should my prayer life look like?”.  I had said every week leading up to this Sunday, that my prayer for today was to offer the most practical message on prayer we could be a part of.  I hope it came across as practical and applicable.
  • I shared specific things from my own prayer life that I felt applied to ALL levels of spiritual maturity.  Essentials to a powerful and effective prayer life if you will.  (#1 being YOU NEED TO KNOW JESUS)
  • The four essentials (which were our four main points today) that an effective and powerful prayer life needs is: A Time, A Place, An Order and An Openness. (You can watch or listen to the sermon online on Tuesday.  elementweb.net
  • I believe we often underestimate the power of prayer IN our lives, while we overestimate our prayers power to convince God to CHANGE our lives.
  • Until your prayer life becomes a priority, it will never become a practice.
  • The reason so many of us are uncomfortable in our prayer lives, not knowing what to say or not being able to talk with God for extended periods of time, is because when we DO come to Him in prayer it’s like getting re-acquainted with an old friend instead spending daily time with a close friend.
  • It’s not about giving God enough time, there is NEVER enough, it’s about giving Him the appropriate time from my day.
  • Prayer is not going to work FOR you until you’re willing to work AT it.
  • In order to have a powerful and effective prayer life, you need to MAKE time, GIVE it some time, and do it more than ONE time.
  • (Speaking on a place to pray)  A lot of people say “I can pray anywhere”, and while that’s true, it’s often said by someone who is not praying SOMEWHERE!
  • “Pray anywhere” prayers are a great supplement to our prayer lives, but should never become a substitute for a time and a place to pray.
  • Eventually in my prayer life I had to choose an uncomfortable place to pray so I wouldn’t fall asleep.  The reality is, I didn’t want to be comfortable, I wanted to be in communion, and my comfort level was affecting my communion.
  • Praying creates opportunities by opening our eyes to see the possibilities.  Sometimes we don’t see the possibilities because we aren’t praying for the opportunities.
  • All too often I want all the stuff God can give me while He’s waiting and wanting to give me HIM.  I wonder if we’ve grown too content seeking the gifts, instead of the giver?

— Like I said, this series couldn’t come at a better time in my life.  I hope it’s been valuable to others as well.  “Lord, may you make us a PEOPLE of prayer.”

— ALL the supply lists have been taken for our backpack outreach.  WOO HOO!  Here is the thing…NOW WE NEED THEM BACK!  Ha ha.  If you took a supply list (or more) THANK YOU so much.  Please be sure to bring back your lists with the purchased supplies by THIS Sunday, August 1st. You can either bring them Sunday, or to the office between 9 AM  & 5 PM,  Monday – Friday.

—  The outreach team and Fusion Student Ministries are going to be organizing and packing all the backpacks next week!

— Be praying for each family that will receive a backpack, that the LIFE of Christ would be sent with their supplies and that this could IMPACT their lives in a significant way.

—  We announced our next sermon series which begins in 2 weeks.  SUPER stoked about this series.  I believe God is going to RESCUE people from things that have been holding them back for a long time.  Make sure and invite someone to come with you to church, use some invite cards & check out the promo video below:

— And can I just say that Jeremiah stinkin’ KNOCKED IT OUT with that promo video. Great job bro!

—  My wife gets back tomorrow from being gone for TWENTY SIX DAYS!  I can’t wait to see her again!  Missed her IMMENSELY.  My kids don’t get back till next Sunday.  MAN I love my family so much!

—  Alright, can’t wait to get into this week.  I love what I do!  Element, as always, thank you SO MUCH for letting me be a part of your lives.  I count it a HIGH honor and GREAT responsibility and privilege to lead you!  You guys ROCK!

Till the end,

Jeff

Do You Believe God Speaks To Us?

22 07 2010

That is a GREAT question.  I would say if you don’t, then consider this.

If you’re an Elementer and you were in church this past Sunday, then you heard me share how uneasy I was with the text and topic I felt the Lord leading me to preach.  We’re in the middle of a series on prayer, and this particular sermon was on “What in the world do I pray for?”  I’m nervous EVERY sermon & every service delivering God’s Word (Anyone who is not a little nervous sharing God’s Word from the pulpit has something wrong with them).  But while I’m nervous every service, there was something more about this past Sunday.  I didn’t feel comfortable or confident about the message at all.  It wasn’t because it was controversial, or potentially divisive (I’ve preached those too. Those are called space makers), it was because I STILL DON’T UNDERSTAND PRAYER!  Anyone who says they have prayer completely figured out, needs to do some praying…on forgiveness…cause they’re lying.

But I digress.  Only a couple people on staff knew of my struggles that week.  I had a sermon done, I felt God had led me in what to say, I just didn’t feel ready, comfortable or confident.  Friday morning as I was doing my quiet time, praying about this specific issue and seeking confirmation from God, I received this simple email from my brother.  He had NO idea what I was going through:

This was in my daily reading and as I was reading it (from Jeremiah 1), I just felt like God wanted me to share it with you.  Not sure why and it may have just been gas.  But, If God is giving you words to say, don’t be afraid to say them.  (verses 7 – 9)

7But the LORD said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’ Because everywhere I send you, you shall go, And all that I command you, you shall speak.   8″Do not be afraid of them, For I am with you to deliver you,” declares the LORD.  9Then the LORD stretched out His hand and touched my mouth, and the LORD said to me, “Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.”

Do I believe God still speaks to us?  ABSOLUTELY!  Sometimes through the directing of someone else in our lives.  Where is God speaking to you?  Who is He speaking to you through?  Are you listening?

Trying to listen,

Jeff

The Admission Price Of Worship (Pastor Steven Furtick)

22 07 2010

Pastor Steven Furtick had some GREAT insight into worship.  Loved his discussion about it.  Check it out below:

We live in a culture that places feelings at the apex of our motivation for everything we do. If you feel like doing something, go for it with everything you’ve got. On the flipside, if you don’t feel like it, why do it at all? It’s pointless. Inauthentic.

This mindset holds tremendous consequences for our approach to worship. If we get into a worship experience on the weekend and we don’t feel like worshiping, it can be easy to clock out spiritually and offer God a few scraps of praise. Or simply opt out until next week when we’ll hopefully be in a better mood and we can offer something that’s a little more real. But this reflects a massive misunderstanding of worship and what’s required for it to be authentic and acceptable to God…and it’s not our feelings.

Hebrews 13:15 gives us the real answer: “Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise.”

Your offering filtered through your feelings might be lacking, but your offering filtered through Jesus’ sacrifice will never be. Feeling is not the admission price for worship. Jesus’ blood is.

Don’t let the devil rob you of your praise by talking you into the lie that a certain feeling must precede worship. Jesus has been faithful to offer the worship you’ll never be able to. So be faithful and offer the worship he asks of you through Him. Even if you’re not feeling it. Put your feelings in their place and make them have to catch up to your faithfulness.

Benefit Or Being There?

21 07 2010

I think sometimes in the church, we worship God for His benefits instead of for Him being there.  We don’t worship Him because of WHO He is but because of WHAT He does…FOR us!  If that’s the case, it’s not true worship.

in 2 Kings 17 the Lord exiled Israel from His presence, to Assyria.  The King of Assyria then transported groups of people from Babylon and it’s surrounding lands to resettle the towns of Samaria, “replacing the people of Israel” (2 Kings 17:24).  Because these new residents did not follow the worship regulations that God had established, He sent Lions in among them and killed some of them.  So the King of Assyria sent back one of God’s priests to teach the new inhabitants how to worship God SO they would not be killed.  These are the verses that stood out to me:

2 Kings 17:28-29 So one of the priests who had been exiled from Samaria returned to Bethel and taught the new residents how to worship the Lord.  BUT these various groups of foreigners also continued to worship their own gods.  In town after town there they lived, they placed their idols at the pagan shrines that the people of Samaria had built. (emphasis added)

They worshiped the Lord,  but they didn’t stop the worship of their STUFF either.  Can’t that be so true of us ?  They wanted the BENEFIT of God…His protection, but they really didn’t care for Him to BE THERE!  I don’t know about you, but I want to worship God for WHO He is not WHAT He can give me.  I want to worship God NOT for His benefits but for Him BEING there!  His presence.  His presence is ALL we need.  In fact, God’s benefits, without Him being there…isn’t worth much at all!

Till the end,

Jeff

Godly Confidence

19 07 2010

I’ve been sitting on this one for a while and felt like today I’d share it.  I think there is a godly confidence EACH Christian should have, based on GOD’S calling and OUR gifts He has given.  When God has given you a gift, and He has also CALLED you to use it, there should be a level of confidence that comes from the combination of those two things.

Genesis 40:8 says this:  And they replied, “We both had dreams last night, but no one can tell us what they mean.”  “Interpreting dreams is GOD’S business,” Joseph replied. “Go ahead and tell ME your dreams.”

I LOVE Joseph’s CONFIDENT response.  “Interpreting dreams is God’s business, so go ahead and tell me.”  HA!  It sounds just plain cocky, or borderline sac religions.  I mean, if it was God’s business, why “tell him”?  Cause Joseph understood something.  He understood that THIS is my gift, and GOD wants me to use it.  If it’s GOD’S business… and God is WITH me… and God wants to USE me…then I better STEP UP.

Do you know what your gifts are?  Do you know what God has called you to do?  People may label it cocky and arrogant, but I believe like Joseph, when we KNOW our gifts and we KNOW our calling their comes a certain level of GODLY CONFIDENCE that follows us.

Confident,

Jeff

Sunday Ruminations (7-18-10)

18 07 2010

Hey Element Church!  WOW!  Loved what happened at Element Church today.  Thanks to EVERYONE who makes Sunday morning happen.  Our volunteers are AMAZING!  Here are my ruminations on the day.

—  16 people stood to acknowledge Jesus Christ as their Savior today.  11 in 2nd service and 5 in 3rd service. WOO HOO!  If only for the ONE!

—  I had a completely different ending to my message planned, and yesterday God shredded it.  We’re doing this series on prayer and through the week, I had been feeling like God was asking me to end with a  salvation response.  I told him “But we’re doing a message on prayer.  We’re in the middle of the summer slump.  What if no one responds?”  Yesterday, as I was studying I just felt Him speak to my heart “Jeffrey, what’s one prayer that I’ll ALWAYS respond to?”  Salvation…Forgiveness, was the answer.

  • Romans 10:9 “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart God raised him from the dead you will be SAVED.”
  • 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”

—  So I scratched what I had planned and changed up the whole ending.  I text Adam so he’d be ready for the closing and emailed our staff and leadership team telling them essentially “I have no idea if anyone will respond, but If I don’t do this I’ll be disobeying God.” Just pray!

—  I’m SO GLAD I listened to God’s voice.  Second service, I even asked (with heads bowed and eyes closed), if anyone knew they needed to receive Christ as Savior.  NO ONE raised their hand.  I felt God just saying “Still lead them in a prayer of salvation.”  So I did.  And then ELEVEN people acknowledged they prayed to receive Christ by standing publicly.  AWESOME!

—  Seeing people experience LIFE in Christ NEVER gets old.

—  2nd and 3rd service were pretty packed today.  Great to see the uptick in attendance beginning again.

—  SO GLAD we are offering prayer after each service.  We have an amazing group of people volunteering as prayer warriors following every service.  We invite anyone to stay and receive prayer for ANYTHING they need in their life.  Have seen some AMAZING moments of prayer for people.  Thanks prayer team for making that happen.  You guys ROCK.

—  The power and presence of God during worship today was SO HEAVY.  Can’t even explain what I felt third service.  God was just speaking directly to my heart.  I had to kneel at the altar and just praise Him.

— GREAT job by Adam and the team.  Adam even wrote a bridge for I Exalt Thee, leading into One Thing.  SO GOOD!

—  Adam has received 6 songs back (not fully mixed) from The Bakery Studio.  Element worship album should be completed this Fall.  I hear it is AMAZING!

— Continued our series called The Frayed today.  I was VERY uneasy and unsettled heading into today, but just trusted God to speak through me.  Got a SUPER COOL email from my brother on Friday that I’ll share next Sunday how it played into today.  Here are some excerpts from the sermon:

  • I must fully grasp what prayer really is before I will ever get from it what I really need to receive.
  • What I’m learning about prayer is “impaired vision impedes progress”.  Many of us stumble through our prayer lives because our vision FOR it and OF it is off!
  • Drunk Goggles (You’ll have to watch the video)
  • Working definition of prayer for our series “Prayer is more communion and less coercion.  It is not about getting God to move, but allowing Him to move me.
  • The Big Question was “What in the world do I pray for?”  Preached from the text of Luke 11:9-10
  • Ask for ANYTHING, but expect the same in return.  I can ask God for anything, but He can give me ANYTHING in return.
  • “But what if God doesn’t answer?”  The truth is He always answers, it just may not be with what we requested.
  • The goal of “keep on asking” is not to get my original request, but to get ME to the RIGHT one.
  • The more I ask, the more He’s able to refine what I’m asking for.
  • Ask for the ultimate goal, not the deceptively good.
  • Thanks to Pastor Pete Wilson for this next one:  Our greatest danger is not in chasing the ridiculously evil but the deceptively good.  We are great at taking the deceptively good, and making it our ultimate goal.  (that is SO STINKIN’ good)
  • Our personal desires must be released before God’s desires can be embraced.
  • Ask for ears to hear.  Listening is the missing element of prayer.
  • To ask according to His will is to ask according to His Word.  We cannot know His will outside of His Word.

—  As of right now, only SEVEN school supply lists remain for our backpack outreach.  Don’t forget, we have adopted Rossman Elementary school and are providing ALL kids in that school with backpacks and supplies for their year.  Bring back your list AND supplies by August 1st so we can get the backpacks stuffed.  THANK YOU ELEMENT FAMILIES for helping to offer LIFE and IMPACT.

—  We had a youth missions group here serving at Element all last week.  Each student had $5 to spend this week on anything (a soda here or there, cheap souvenir, etc).  They were in church last Sunday and after the service, they all pooled their money and bought school supplies for the backpack ministry.

—  THEN the students mowed a HUGE lawn for a lady whose tractor had broke down (LOL, I said in every service her leg was broke.  I was given faulty information).  The lady was so moved by their servanthood and generosity that she gave them $100.  What did the students do with it?  Bought MORE STINKIN’ SCHOOL SUPPLIES.  So cool.  Expanding IMPACT!

—  Don’t forget Wednesday prayer from noon to 1 PM here in the worship center.

—  Also if you want to sign up for 96 hours of Bible and prayer call the office.  Check out the info HERE.

— Alright, bout time for me to head home and CRASH.  Element Church, I LOVE you guys so much.  Thanks for letting me be real, honest and transparent with you.  You guys are the BEST!  Couldn’t imagine leading anyone else.

Till the end,

Jeff
