A few months ago I had lunch with one of the Chaplains on base here in Cheyenne (F. E. Warren Air Force Base). He was sharing with me about the Airmen’s Ministry Center (AMC). The AMC is an outreach to the young airmen (18-25 yr. olds) on base, in which there are a couple thousand currently serving here. It is geared to help give them some connection to each other, but most importantly some connection to the Lord. One of the things the AMC wanted to do was a monthly “progressive” worship service. That is where we came in. At the time of this conversation, our leadership team was feeling led to somehow minister to those who were on base but did not attend church anywhere. This was a great opportunity for us to serve the AMC and the airmen on base.
Sunday night, we held the first worship service called Ignite. Before the event, I quoted Zechariah 4:10 to our team “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin…” The Lord gave me that verse when we started Element and felt He was leading me to it again. We didn’t expect a HUGE turnout but simply, the start of something that God could use. I couldn’t be more proud of the team of staff and volunteers that literally nailed the event on Sunday. It was our pleasure to serve the Chaplaincy in this ministry.
I received this email from one of the chaplains today: Pastor Jeff,
I’m struggling to find the words to rightly thank you for the true excellence in which your staff and team served our base community. It may have been a small start, but as you know – most great things start that way. I am truly looking forward to working together with you for the glory of God in the next couple months.
I believe we are currently looking at January 30th, as the next possible date for Ignite. We’ll nail that down here shortly. Please pray for the AMC as they try to effectively reach the airmen at F. E. Warren for the glory of God.
Till the end,
Jeff
We will pray for all of you. I didn’t really know Jesus until I attended a worship service during boot camp in Orlando. That’s after Catholic school. Things that start small can become huge… like a snowball.
Are we really planning a Saturday for the next one? that would be sweet for theSHIFT, but I wanted to make sure you meant 30 Jan.
update: all the Airmen that came to the worship service came to theSHIFT last night. So excited to see them plugged-in beyond the worship service!
