“When E. F. Hutton talks…

5 11 2009

…people listen!”  Remember that slogan?  I hope the same can be said of me when the Holy Spirit talks.  I’m experiencing one of those “you better listen” moments this week.  I’d appreciate your prayers.  This Sunday, we’re concluding our series on Core Values called “I Love The 80′s:  Totally Rad Livin’”.  I had my sermon nearly completed.  Scripture, big question, points, everything.  Had 4 pages of notes written out, but the whole time I was writing I just didn’t feel good about it.  Not that the sermon was bad or wouldn’t work, but it wasn’t what I was supposed to be saying for THIS Sunday.  I told Terri to hold off on getting the worship guide done, told Kody that I didn’t know what was going to happen for Sunday but didn’t feel good about the direction I was headed.  I stopped my sermon prep and began praying and reading the Scripture.  “Lord if this isn’t right then I need a new direction from you.”  Suddenly, a bright light starting to shine in my office and the sound of angels filled the room as God began to speak to me my sermon for Sunday…..ummm NO!  NOTHING!  I got NOTHING!

I went home last night not knowing what would happen, and still NOTHING!  I actually dreamt about it all night, with NOTHING!  I’d wake up trying to figure out what wasn’t right about the sermon…still NOTHING! Even when I got up this morning to workout I couldn’t figure out what wasn’t right.  THEN, as I did my devotions the Lord laid it out.  It was clear and it felt RIGHT!  I have a whole new direction for Sunday and I’m glad I listened and held off on finishing my sermon.  That means I’m behind in sermon prep so I shouldn’t be writing this blog.  I’m excited for the truth that God wants to speak to our hearts about on Sunday, as we close out our talk on radical living.

Your prayers would be appreciated as my preparation time for this message will be GREATLY diminished.

Listening,

Jeff

Is great that you listen to the Holy Spirit………We all tend to go in a direction we have put effort into…..Thank You for reminding us ……..that is not what we should always do!
