Why?

Why do we do what we do at Element Church?  I’m going to share a story with you that answers that question.  Last week I received an email from one of our head ushers and leadership council members, named Keith.  (Keith regularly ministers  at the Jeffrey C. Wardle Academy (JCWA).  The JCWA is designed to provide detention services to teens as well as substance abuse treatment.)  The story happened on Sunday, July 12th, and includes both Keith and a young man from our church named Lance.  Lance got saved at Element on March 1st of 2009, and hasn’t looked back since.  He was one of our 35 people who got baptized yesterday.  I got permission from both Keith and Lance to share this story and here is the email I got from Keith:

As I was enjoying worship today, I looked over and saw Lance praising God.  Right then, God said, “Hey Keith!  Take Lance with you out to JCWA and have him share his testimony.”  I didn’t really know his story, but I do know that when God speaks you better listen.  So I asked him to come along.  He was a little bewildered and nervous about it, but he agreed.

As we were checking in to the center, Lance got to the portion that asked if he’d ever been arrested and asked me what to put.  I said put down the truth (not knowing what the truth was).   When we got inside, we did the usual greeting…get to know you stuff with the 8 guys there.  I then introduced Lance, and he shared his story.  WOW!  I had no idea what he had been through, and how God changed his life so dramatically!  I also didn’t realize how much it fit the background of these kids!  When he was done, I asked if anyone wanted to receive Christ, and four guys did!  How awesome is that?!  God using this new believer, who is growing in Christ, to minister and reach kids that I, or any other chaplain out there couldn’t reach.  It is so awesome when God does HIS amazing work, and so cool to see how He is growing in Lance’s life.”

Friends…THAT is why!

If only for the one…

Jeff

Just another awesome example of how God tests us so we may have a testimony that demonstrates God’s real work in a real life to impact a real world.
