Sunday Rumination (6-21-09)

21 06 2009

Happy Father’s Day to all you dad’s out there.  Hope you had a blessed day if you’re a dad.  Here are my ruminations on the day.

— Today is my 12th wedding anniversary.  I have the GREATEST wife on the planet and wouldn’t trade any of our years together for anything.  I love you babe and can’t wait for the next 12 and beyond!

— GREAT spirit in the services today.  Good response to the worship and the Word.

— In first service we had a moment.  The Spirit of God was VERY heavy and evident in the place.  It was one of those moments that you cannot create or plan for, it just happens when God falls on a service.

— The response during worship in first service was amazing!

— Adam and the band absolutely NAILED it today.  Knocked it out of the park.  They helped usher us into the presence of God and led the way with passionate worship.

— The song selection today set up the message perfectly.  The medley of Overcome, Same Power, and I Am Free totally paved the way for the Word to be spoken.

— When you get a chance, make sure and thank the worship team for the amount of time and effort they put into leading us in worship.  Not only do they give a TON of time, but they are excellent at what they do.  A bunch of the worship team gets to head to Colorado Springs tonight for the Enter Worship Conference.  Be praying for them as they go.

— 1st and 2nd service attendance was solid today.  3rd service was pretty slim.

— I told a POSITVE John Elway/Denver Bronco story today.  Enjoy it Bronco fans cause it may not happen again.

—  Continued One Prayer today.  Spoke on God is VICTORIOUS!

— If God is victorious, and He lives in me, what does that make me?  VICTORIOUS!

— John says “Who is it that overcomes the world?  Only he who believes that Jesus is the Chrst!”  Why aren’t more people living in victory?

—  “We need to stop viewing our spiritual lives with the attitude of impossiblity, and start remembering it is God who gives us the victory.”

— Announced our next sermon series today via a video promo.  Untouchables begins July 12.  I’ll post a video later this week you can use to invite your friends.

— This year we are taking aim at the church.  Tackling 3 issues the church needs to hear about.  Integrity/Character, Money, Gossip.

— Announced our first ever Element Tailgate and Baptism party.  On Sunday, July 19th following our third service, Element will be providing a BBQ lunch for everyone who wants to come and celebrate with people as they “go public” with their faith through baptism.  We’re gonna hang out in the parking lot, worship together and watch as a bunch of people make their public confession of faith.  We already have 17 people who signed up for Baptism.  There will be a BUNCH more.  Plan on being there.  It is going to be a BLAST.

— Sunday, July 5th we are having church in the park.  One service at 10 AM.  No childcare is provided but ALL families and ages are encouraged to attend.  We’ll be meeting at the Lyons Park amphitheater.  It will be a great time of worship and a message from the Word.

— If you haven’t turned in your baby bottles for Life Choice yet, please get those to the office this week.  We have received a TON of money filled bottles so far.  Thank you for all who supported this effort.

—  That’s about it.  Hope you all have an AWESOME week!  Remember…God is VICTORIOUS!

Following Christ,

Jeff

One Prayer Day 21: Clear

21 06 2009

Matthew 21:  God is CLEAR

To quote a scene from the movie A Few Good Men:

Jessep: We follow orders, son. We follow orders or people die. It’s that simple. Are we clear?

Kaffee: Yes sir. Jessep: Are we clear? Kaffee: Crystal.

God is CLEAR.  There is no wondering what He wants from us.  Is God clear?  CRYSTAL

Matthew 21:28-32 says

28 “But what do you think about this? A man with two sons told the older boy, ‘Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.’ 29 The son answered, ‘No, I won’t go,’ but later he changed his mind and went anyway. 30 Then the father told the other son, ‘You go,’ and he said, ‘Yes, sir, I will.’ But he didn’t go. 31 “Which of the two obeyed his father?” They replied, “The first.” Then Jesus explained his meaning: “I tell you the truth, corrupt tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the Kingdom of God before you do. 32 For John the Baptist came and showed you the right way to live, but you didn’t believe him, while tax collectors and prostitutes did. And even when you saw this happening, you refused to believe him and repent of your sins.

What is it Jesus wants?  FOLLOW THROUGH.  It is not about WORDS it is about ACTION.  Jesus made a very clear distinction here between the person who SAYS the right thing and the person who DOES the right thing.  I can SAY I’m going to follow Christ, but doesn’t FOLLOWING Him show me as a follower? God is CLEAR.

Now, I don’t think Jesus is saying that He wants us to say “I’m not going to follow You.”  And then we do.  Obviously He desires both.  BUT, He was exposing the pharisaical attitude here of KNOWING the right answers but NOT knowing HIM.  He didn’t say “John the Baptist showed you the right things to SAY…or the right things to KNOW… but the right way to LIVE.”  Sadly though, too many people live life trusting in what they SAY and KNOW all the while never going out to the vineyard to work for the WHO.  God is CLEAR.

What is God being clear about that you are ignoring?  Is there anything you’ve said “Yes” to and have yet to follow through?

Following Christ,

Jeff
