I’ve been mulling over this idea of “being called” the last few weeks, have talked some about it with the staff, and even the leadership council here at Element Church. When you talk about being CALLED to do something, everything changes. There is such a HUGE difference between saying “I’d LIKE to do that” and “I’m CALLED to do that.” When I use the word “called” I am talking about GOD asking ME to do something, which is such a clear and distinct move of God in my life, that if I didn’t do it, I’d be sinning. That is the GREATEST definition of the call that I’ve heard. “If you could do anything else and NOT be sinning, you are not called.” (I heard Pastor Dan Morgan say that one time and it has always stuck with me) The call is clear, distinct and unmistakable. If you’ve been called to do ANYTHING you know what I’m talking about. It’s kind of like love. You can’t describe to someone how you knew you were in love, you just KNEW.
The apostle Paul puts it this way in 1 Corinthians 9:16 “Yet preaching the Good News is not something I can boast about. I am compelled by God to do it. How terrible for me If I didn’t preach the Good News.”
This Sunday is Father’s Day, and when I think about “the Call”, I can think of no better example to me than my dad. SO, over the course of this week I will be blogging a series of posts on the call. They will all be things that I learned by observing my Father pursue God’s call on His life, intermixed with some other examples I’ve seen in people who have “the Call”. Be watching for the posts and I hope it helps someone out there!.
Called,
