For us sports fans we hear this all the time don’t we? Especially come playoff time, March Madness, end of the season in any sport. “This is a must win game for (fill in the blank)…”
I was watching SportsCenter this morning while working out and they were talking NBA playoffs. I’m not much of an NBA fan but I get interested around playoff time, and really would have been MORE interested with a Kobe vs. Lebron matchup. That would have been the best one on one matchup in the finals since Larry vs. Magic or Jordan vs. Malone/Magic/Barkley. But I digress. They were talking up game 3 tonight and how this is a “must win” game for Orlando in this 4 game series. “That they better come out and play like it’s a ‘must win’.” Sportscasters throw that word around often when teams haven’t showed up, and now their back is against the wall. It got me thinking…
Shouldn’t EVERY game be a must win game for teams? What if Orlando would have played game one like it was must win? Why not play EVERY game like your back is against the wall?
Psalm 90:12 says “Teach us to realize the brevity of life so that we may grow in wisdom.”
James 4:14 says “14 How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.”
Folks, yesterdays GONE and there is no guarantee for tomorrow! Last Sunday is forever done and this next Sunday could be our last! What if we preached EVERY sermon…planned EVERY service…led EVERY Life Group…sang EVERY song…and served EVERY time as if it were our last? What if we lived our spiritual lives as if there were no more tomorrows? Approaching our days with a “brevity” mentality? I don’t know what that would look like but I think we would be much better off if we lived our lives in a “must win” attitude.
Today is MUST WIN! Sunday is MUST WIN! It’s so easy to put life and ministry on cruise control until we’re FORCED into a game 3 situation where we HAVE to win. But friends, TODAY is game 3. SUNDAY is game 3. If we don’t win NOW, there may be no tomorrow!
Must win,
Jeff
