One Prayer Day 7: Teacher

7 06 2009

Day 7 of One Prayer is upon us.  You can get a prayer calendar to follow along HERE.  Todays theme?  God is determined.  That is the theme of our service today as well.  Pray for the churches listed on the calendar and also pray for God to reveal Himself as determined.  Come to church today or listen to the podcast to see how He is determined.

Matthew 7:

If Jesus is the “exact representation” of who God is, we can tell a LOT about God by Jesus’ life.  As I was reading Matthew 7 I thought, MAN, Jesus was a teacher at heart.  Not only did He preach sermons like here in Matthew 7, but He was ALWAYS teaching.

How many lessons is God trying to teach me that I’m oblivious too?  Jesus NEVER took any moment for granted it seemed.  He was always using the circumstances surrounding the disciples lives, nature, agriculture, money, EVERYTHING.  He was always teaching.

Jesus ends the sermon on the mount with this:

Matthew 7:24-29

24 “Anyone who listens to my TEACHING and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. 26 But anyone who hears my TEACHING and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.” 28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his TEACHING, 29 for he TAUGHT with real authority—quite unlike their teachers of religious law.

God is a TEACHER.  What is God trying to teach you?  What circumstances in your life might be teaching opportunties that you are missing?  Are you allowing God to invest into your life with lessons?  Am I building on a firm foundation or a sandy one?

Trying to be taught,

Jeff
