One Prayer Day 3: Fulfillment

3 06 2009

Welcome to Day 3 of our 28 day One Prayer journey.  If you need a calendar, you can download it HERE.

Today’s prayer?  God is merciful.  Please pray for God to show mercy today to the people around us.  That we would reveal and demonstrate His mercy.  Also pray for the churches listed on the Calendar.

Matthew 3:

Jesus said “I have not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it”.  Christ IS the fulfillment of Scripture.  He IS the fulfillment of our hearts.  God is fulfillment.

Here in chapter 3 we see Jesus going to John the Baptist to be baptized.  Jesus said something about His baptism that jumps out at me in v. 15.  He says “It should be done, for we must carry out all that God requires.”  Was baptism required for Jesus?  Baptism wasn’t a part of the Jewish/Mosaic law was it?  Christ wasn’t “saved” and needing to be baptized to publicly declare His faith, right?  So why would he say that?

Christ was revealing himself as the GREAT High Priest.  He is “intiating” in the NEW day of grace, mercy and truth.  Just as the high priest of the law would be initiated by washing with water and anointing of oil, so here Christ was initiated by the washing of water and the anointing of the Holy Spirit.  He was signifying Himself as THE High Priest over God’s children.  Christ FULFILLED His initiation into the office of High Priest, thus He was prepared to make atonement for OUR SINS and to tear the veil of the temple in two bringing God and man together.

God is fulfillment.  No longer do we need the blood of goats or lambs.  No longer do we go to the temple and priest. No longer is their a veil between us and God.  GOD is right there.  “Call on Him while He is near” the Bible says.  I think we take for granted the FULFILLMENT of God in us.  That, because of Christ, He is RIGHT THERE.  Chrsit did ALL that He needed to do, in order to be ALL that we needed to have. God is FULFILLMENT.

Where are you not allowing God to fulfill your life?  In what areas of your life are you not “accessing” the availability of God?

Fulfilled,

Jeff
