Five Things

30 01 2009

Here are five things I am SUPER STOKED about!

1.  Tomorrow.  From 10 am – Noon we are hosting a FREE financial learning experience by Joe Sangl.  His financial principles and teaching are AMAZING!  If you are not planning on being there and you live in Cheyenne, GET THERE.

2.  On Sunday I get the ABSOLUTE PRIVILEGE of getting to commission Pastor Andy into full time minstry.  That’s right.  Sunday, is Andy’s first day as a full time pastor.  PRAISE GOD!  Andy has sacrificed a TON to minister at Element Church, and I pray God rewards and blesses him and Aubrey for their dedication and sacrifice.

3.  February 8th we are starting our new sermon series called “The Wild Goose Chase”.  You can read and see more about it HERE. It is a PERFECT follow up to 21 and I am so excited to preach through this series.

4.  Super Bowl!  GO CARDINALS.  I am not a Cardinals fan at all, nor do I dislike the Steelers.  I just love Kurt Warners story AND if I had to claim an NFL team it would be the Rams who he lead to 2 Super Bowls and one title.  (I know, the Rams don’t really qualify as an NFL team right now)  Get to hang out with some friends and fellow Elementers to watch the game.

5.  Element Church.  I don’t know what is coming our way but I can only imagine what God might do.  People need LIFE and we can only find that in the person of Jesus Christ and HIS atoning sacrifice for us.  As long as people need life, we have a misison to fill.

Sneak Peak

29 01 2009

wgc-ann

For you Element bloggers out there I’m offering a sneak peak at our upcoming sermon series. I am SO PUMPEDE for this series. I think it’s a PERFECT follow up to 21, and can really help us in our pursuit of God and HIS dreams for us. It was inspired by a book that our pastoral staff read and we were INCREDIBLY challenged by. Some of our Life Groups will be going through the book while we do the sermon series too. So, starting Sunday, February 8th we’ll begin our adventure called “The Wild Goose Chase”. Check out the video. Use the video to invite people to Element Church.Element Churchelementweb.net600 E. Devotional Thoughts

29 01 2009

Here are some recent devo thoughts.

Nehemiah 9:3 —  And we can’t stand for 20 minutes to sing praise songs to our God, or put up with a worship service much longer than an hour in comfortable charis?  Give me a stinkin’  break!

Nehemiah 9:5 — I don’t know if this is what that verse even means, but this is what God spoke to my heart when I read it.  “Jeff, I want you to exalt me above all the blessings I give you, not BECAUSE of them.”  I need to be more thankful for GOD, not just what He gives me.

Esther 4:14 — God’s plan for the people of Israel.  I’ve always read this, but never noticed it I guess.  Mordecai says to Esther that “…you’ve been raised up for just such a time as this.  But if you don’t, God will provide deliverance from somewhere else.”  How man times has God “used someone else” because I didn’t do what I was raised up to do.  Not, just talking about being a pastor.  God wants to use us RIGHT WHERE WE ARE AT!  I know in my life, I have IGNORED opportunities to be Jesus to someone else.

Esther 4:16 — I am challenged/convicted every time I read this verse.  We usually fast to get something from God, or to seek direction on something.  Many times I think we use prayer/fasting as a spiritual excuse to do what we already know we should do.  Esther didn’t say “Fast to see if I should go.”  She said”Fast for me BECAUSE I’M GOING!  And if I die, I die!”  LOVE THAT STATEMENT.

Job… I LOVE this book everytime I read it. Such great stuff.

Job 1:8 — I can’t believe GOD said THAT about a man!  What would God say of me?  CRAZY!

Job 13:15-16 — Job COULD stand before God with his questions, because he was NOT godless, but upright.

The whole book — Jobs friends made true statements but mixed with HORRIBLE advice.  Some of their statements were true about God, but didn’t apply or weren’t correct in the life of Job.

The whole book — Jobs friends were CONVINCED that no one could be blameless, ESPECIALLY going through what Job was going through.  There HAD to be sin in his life.  YET, don’t forget that it was GOD who said “he is upright and blameless”.

Job 19:25-27 — This is one I am memorizing now.  LOVE these verses.

One thing I realized from reading through Job again this time.  GOD IS NOT AFRAID OF OUR QUESTIONS!  We don’t…we CAN’T understand everything.  We can’t explain the ways of God.  He is big enough to handle our questions.  The responsibility is ours to “not sin” in how we handle our questions.  How we handle our “lifes toughest moments”.  The Bible says “In all this, Job did not sin”.  Now God had some very tough responses and questions back at Job at the end of the book.  God establishes WHO HE IS!  But God is NOT afraid of our questions.

NO SUPER BOWL PARTY!!

28 01 2009

Due to a lack of interest in the Super Bowl party, we are canceling the event held at the church!  We understand that the age limit may have had an affect on how many could attend.  Or maybe it was because the Broncos weren’t even close again.  LOL  (sorry had to say it)  We don’t feel we can justify opening up the entire church for the few who signed up to come.  Enjoy that Sunday afternoon with your family and some friends GO CARDINALS!  We encourage you to use the Super Bowl as a gathering time for some fellowship with friends and other Elementers.  Have a GREAT week and hopefully we’ll see you Sunday morning.

Buckle Up

27 01 2009

Just typing my heart here.  No idea where this will go.  Just felt I needed to get it out:

My spirit is full of anticipation.  Yesterday at our Lead Team meeting I told the guys to bring their seatbelts cause God was stirring some things in me and we’re gonna need to buckle up.  Some of the things He is stirring I have NO idea how they can happen.  Which is just where I think we need to be.  We’re praying for some CLEAR direction on what God would have us do.  I don’t want to always do what I know we can pull off on our own.  When we do that, we remove the need for God.  My prayer is that God would CONTINUE to move us in directions that SCARE us to Him.  (Notice not scare us to death.  But scare us to Him)  For far too long I think we (personally, church) have functioned out of less risk, less unknown, less fear.

Scare us to Him.  I like that.  When God begins leading you or leading us as Christians to do something WAY beyond ourselves, His intent is NOT to scare us away, it’s to scare us closer.  When Moses was getting scared away, God said “I will be with you!”.  When Jesus was leaving the disciples and giving them the INCREDIBLY scary task of the Great Commission He said “And I will be with you always.  Even to the ends of the age”.  Whenever God called men and women to a task greater than themselves, it was designed to SCARE THEM TO HIM.  For in HIM is the ONLY place they could accomplish their task.

I don’t want to dream dreams that limit God.  I don’t want to run away from challenges because they scare me.  I don’t want to resist the leading of the Holy Spirit because the task is too big…the risk is too great…the odds are stacked against us.  Since when did odds stop God?  I am praying for tasks…challenges…dreams…visions…that SCARE ME…Scare me to Him.

What is God asking YOU to do that scares you?  What task, challenge, dream or vision have you been putting off?  Have you allowed something to scare you away, instead of scare you to Him?  It’s a dangerous prayer I know.  Praying to be scared.  But for me…It’s the only place I want to be.

Buckle up my friends.  The best is yet to come.  And it is scary!

Scared,

Jeff

Sunday Rumination (1-25-09)

25 01 2009

Woke up this morning to snow and FREEZIN cold.  The wind wasn’t blowing though so that made it much better.  Didn’t know what the turn out would be at church.  It was snowing pretty heavy before first service.  Here are my ruminations on the day.

— Took the family sledding today.  We need new sleds.  Ours stick more than slide.

— 624 in church today.  We actually had more in first service than second today.  Which was weird.  It had stopped snowing hard by the time first service was over.  Over 90 people in e:kidz 1st service alone.

— Speaking of kids.  We made a tough announcement today.  I LOVE the fact that we have a bunch of kids coming to Element.  I LOVE hearing them play and laugh down there.  It means something is happening.  HOWEVER, we have a serious safety issue when it comes to #’s of teammates to serve in e:kidz.  Two weeks ago we had 24 babies in the nursery.  For safety reasons we are supposed to have 1 adult for every 4 babies.  The ratio in the older kids rooms isn’t nearly as much.  SO, starting this coming (or next) Sunday we will only be taking the amount of kids we can safely handle with # of teammates serving.  We’ll have the # of kids we can take posted outside the corresponding doors.  We just can’t take the risk of something happening and not having enough teammates in there.  We need the most help in the Itty Bitty Nursery.  (24 kids needs 6 adults)  If you can help serve in our kids area PLEASE DO!

— God forbid a guest comes and we can’t take their kids.  That is my biggest fear, but we’ve waited too long to make this decision.  It HAS to be done!

— I was more nervous about todays topic than any in our series, or any in a long time for that matter.  I knew it was something God wanted us to discuss but just couldn’t get ANY direction through the week.  I actually felt like the enemy gave me several “outs” through the week.  We almost changed the whole theme on Thursday.  I’m glad we didn’t.  We talked about self-discipline, but focused heavily on our physical health.  How it affects our mental health which feeds our spiritual health.

— I can stand up and speak on sin, KNOWING people will be offended and I’m totally ok.  I can speak on vision and the direction of our church KNOWING people won’t like it and may be upset but I’m totally ok.  But God asks me to speak on our physical health and it freaks me out.  Once I was on the platform I felt GREAT and really felt God helped me discuss the issues openly.  Heard several comments like “It was just what I needed” so I’m glad God helped us.

— I think the church is GREAT at talking about disciplining our minds and spirits, but how many times do we talk about our health.  I think we serve a holistic God.  He wants us to be healthy physically, mental AND spiritually.  And I’m not talking about the health, wealth and prosperity teaching that goes around.  I do NOT believe it is God’s ultimate desire for us to be rich, happy and healthy.  But I DO believe he wants us to take care of our bodies, JUST AS MUCH as He does our minds and spirits.  How we treat our bodies is a spiritual issue.  You’ll have to listen to the sermon to hear what I said.

—  Anyway, turned out to be a message that I really liked and seemed to help people.

— MAN, it sure seems that the band is kickin’ up another notch.  They absolutely KILLED it today.  The worship set was so good.

— When I really connect in worship it sure helps me in my preaching.  The tech team is doing so good too.  The sound just gets better every week.  Great job Adam and the band!

— Super excited for the financial seminar this Saturday and the close to 21.  Call or email the office to get signed up for the financial seminar.  This has been one of my favorite sermon series’ we’ve done.  I REALLY feel like this series connected with people.

— Our next sermon series is going to be AWESOME!  Can’t wait.  Ask Adam about the promo video! HA

— Super Bowl Party at the church 4 PM this coming Sunday.  We are providing soda and chips.  Bring your own “main course”.  It is open for anyone in JV Fusion through adults.

— Baptism on February 8th.   4 PM at Calvary Chapel here in town.  If you are a new Christian we’d LOVE for you to make that public confession through baptsim.  Email or call us to get signed up.

— That’s about it.  Have an AWESOME week and enjoy the snow.

Following Christ,

Jeff

Swimming And A Trip To Denver

24 01 2009

Wednesday night we took our family to the city indoor pool for a night of swimming and hanging out.  We had a TON of fun.  The city has a great swimming pool.  It was our first time there.  They had a perfect kiddie pool for Jaydah (and it was warm).  A high and low diving board and an indoor water slide.  They had life jackets for all the kids that wanted them and a very large swimming area.  It was our first time to that pool since moving here and I think we’ll go again.  The kids didn’t want to leave (well, except Makalah who may be developing a fear of water).  img00082

Yesterday (Friday), Pastor Adam, Amber, Sabrina and I all went to Denver for the day.  We went to the Denver Zoo to film some promo vidoes and sermon intros for our upcoming sermon series at Element.  It was a BLAST!  Two weeks ago when we planned this excursion, Adam and I wanted to make part of the day taking our wives with us and going to The Melting Pot restaraunt in Fort Collins.  Sab has been REALLY wanting to go there.  It is a 4 course fondu meal.  HOLY COW the food is good (and pricey).  We had a great day and fun double date with Pastor Adam and Amber.  In fact Adam has some cool thoughts as it relates to church HERE so check it out.

It was FREEZING at the zoo, but it was perfect for keeping the crowds away as we needed to film in several areas of the zoo.  Anytime you walk around with a big professional looking video camera and a microphone you attract attention.  Go figure.  We saw the lions get fed (never seen that before).  And WAY more of the animals were out than usual it seemed.  Not sure if it was the weather or the lack of crowds.  The zoo NEVER gets old to me.  We ended the night at The Melting Pot with the Flaming Turtle chocolate fondu.  WOW!  I think that is the only word to describe that chocolatey goodness.  lol  Thanks to Adam and Amber for hanging out with us and my awesome wife for spending the day with me.

STILL FULL,

Jeff
