Top Moments From 2008 (Pt. 3 of 4)

31 12 2008

#6 July — Ok, I just went through July’s blogs and realized that I can’t link all of them.  BUT, One Prayer was a HUGE highlight for me of the year.  Joining together with thousands of churches around the globe for one sermon series was very cool.  Reading the book of Acts together as a church.  Hearing AMAZING communicators like Perry Noble and Steven Furtick share.  It was a great month.  You can click on “July 2008″ on the right toolbar to check out some thoughts from the month.

#5 August — HOLY COW I just realized how awesome August was.  We kicked off the month HERE with a memory that may be in my top 10 forever.  Commissioning Grant as a FULL TIME Pastor.  WOW!  For those of you who know Grants story, you understand the incredible greatness of God’s love, plan and calling.  Amazing.  The first day Grant was on staff THIS happened.  Then we had our first ever Staff Advance in Estes Park.  Read about it HERE.  We started work on the building, moved our offices, AND threw in a gas buy down too.  MAN that month was packed.  HERE is us on the news for the Gas Buydown.  Click on the “August 2008″ link to read ALL the stuff that happened in August.  OH YEAH we also had a sweet series called Rock Band.  That was fun too.  HA, can’t believe how much we did in August.

#4 September — THIS was a cool Sunday for me.  It was the first time I attended Elemnet Church while one of my staff guys preached.  Curtis preached on evangelism and did AWESOME.  Then we ended the service by having people write the names of someone they want to see come to know Christ on a white mat.  It was cool.  August until now are an absolute blur for me.  We worked like crazy on the church building that whole month.  We’re going to frame the name boards and put them up at the church.  It will be cool.

Top Moments From 2008 (Pt. 2 of 4)

30 12 2008

I’m taking highlights from each month this past year.  Just reminiscing a little bit.  Here are #9 – 7.

#9  April — Sunday April 27th was a cool day.  We made two MAJOR announcements that day.  #1 was we were hiring The General full time.  The other was our leasing of the space we currently worship in.  We started The Climb project to raise money.  I spoke on Jonathan and his armor bearer and Adam wrote an original song called “The Heart Of A Warrior”.  It was an awesome day.  VERY scary, but awesome!  You can read about it HERE.  Not very often than an announcement makes your top moments.  This one does.  Especially now that it’s come to fruition.

#8 May — Two GREAT stories from May.  Nothing to do with church.  “We should go to the Pentagon!”  Read it HERE.  Also you can read about “Perma-grin” and “Vomitron” HERE. Andy also moved here in May.  That was awesome!

#7 June — Demo begins on the building.  LITTLE did we know how painstaking the permit process would be.  CRAZY what we accomplished in here.  Read HEREHERE.  There are picture links on both those blogs.

Jeff

“Hey Dad!”

30 12 2008

Adam and I were out in the worship center talking sound stuff with a sound tech this afternoon when from behind me I heard “Hey Dad!”.  It was Jonah’s voice and it took me a second to realize “My son shouldn’t be here why did I just hear his voice?”  I turned, and sure enough, there was Jonah.  He said “I came to see you.  We were over at Marcus’ Grandpas shop and I wanted to come say hi”.  (Marcus is a friend of Jonah’s, his grandpa has a motorcycle shop across the street from Element)  I LOVED that.  He didn’t need anything.  He wasn’t whining or complaining about something.  He wasn’t hurt.  Sick.  Upset.  Sad.  NOTHING!  He just wanted to see me.  To say “hi”.  To be around me.  Made me wonder.  How often do I just sit and go to my heavenly Father, just because He’s my dad.  When I don’t need anything.  Just to be near Him.  Talk.  Not whining or complaining.  Not hurt.  Sick.  Upset.  Sad.  Just because?  When was the last time you went to God, just because?

Thinking out loud,

Jeff

Top Moments from 2008 (Pt. 1 of 4)

29 12 2008

God has done such AMAZING things this past year, I can’t imagine what I would pick.  I decided to make it easier I would pick one thing from each month of this past year as my top moments.

#12 January — Sunday, January 13th will live in my top church moments for the rest of my life.  We got to be a part of something I had never experienced in church.  We have since done it again.  Element Gives Back Pt. 1.  We were three months old as a church and doing a series on finances.  We felt God asking us to model “this is not our money” by giving an entire offering back.  So, on January 13th, we gave back January 6th’s offering.  $3580 total.  That was a HUGE step for us as a young church that was counting on every offering.  But MAN was it as much a blessing for us as those who got the money.  We challenged people to pay it forward to the community.  You can read about that Sunday HERE.   You can read another  related memory HERE.

#11 February — Breaking the 300 barrier and starting a series on sex.  The series Satans Sex Ed we did in February was more raw, unfiltered and transparent for myself than anything I’ve done as a pastor.  But HOLY COW did people really connect.  AND it was our fastest growing month at the time.  So many new people.  People finding Jesus.  You can read about our first week HEREHERE is another post on it.  AND the Patriots had just lost the Super Bowl.  Doesn’t get much better than that.  It was in February tha twe finalized the Egg Drop AND announced the move to three services too.  Andy and Aubrey also committed to come to Element in that month.  CRAZY month for Element.

#10 March — First annual Cheyenne Egg Drop.  How does that not take the cake.  Dropping 15,000 eggs from a helicopter.  Over 2000 people.  Snow.  It was awesome.  Read about it HERE.  Watch it HERE.  Also busting the 500 barrier on Easter was amazing.

Sunday Ruminations (12-28-08)

28 12 2008

Hey Element Church!  Here are my Ruminations on the day.

— 564 attendance today.

— Not sure if it was more even but it sure seemed that the two services evened out a bit.  First service seemed to have more than last week.  We have extra seats.  LET’S FILL EM’ UP!

— Still feels weird to me.  Getting better but just such a different feel.  I LOVE having the extra space on stage and having people not literally sitting next to the platform is way easier to connect with faces.

— Good song set you guys selected for today.  Loved that we did Yearn again.  Haven’t done that one in a while.  Glad it was one that won too.  Shows how good of a song writer Adam is.

—  We’re having issues with sound.  Not sure if anyone notices but we’re having major difficulty getting the sound the way we want it.  A lot has to do with the wider room and lower ceilings.  just struggling to get the right fill, tone, volume, etc.  We’ll discuss that a LOT in our meetings tomorrow.

— I tried to be cool today and hung out in the sound booth for second service worship.  Here are a couple pics of the crew.

Nice face Andyimg00017

— I did a little dance for the tech crew in the sound booth.

— We have a GREAT and VERY committed tech crew.  We’re running two computers, sound board, light board and video camera right now.  Good job today Andy, Ben, Nate, Jerry and Jason.

— Did a stand alone message called “The movies @ Element Church” today.  It was a look back over what God has done this past year and a look ahead with some vision of what we feel God wants us to do coming up.  Here are some specific things we talked about coming up for Element.

…  Hiring Andy full time as youth pastor.  We’d like to do this by February 1st.  Fusion has around 50 students coming each week and Andy is doing it ALL volunteer.  We want to give our BEST to the students and that starts with giving them a full time youth pastor.

…   We have over 100 kids in our ekidz program each week.  We need to seriously look at hiring an ekidz pastor.  It’s time.  I really feel like not much more can happen with kids our youth until someone is hired. By the way.  The people who are POURING their lives and volunteer time into those ministries are doing an AWESOME job.  It’s just getting to the point that someone needs to be paid to oversee them.

…  We feel like God is leading us to reach over into Laramie.  We have some students driving over and have two young men from Element moving to Laramie.  We’ll most likely look at starting a Life Group over there with the intent, if God leads that way, to eventually plant a campus over there.  The teaching will be done by me via video.  Everything else will be live.  That is the goal and direction for now.

…  We REALLY have a heart to see other church plants up and running as well.  I have no idea what’s in store but we have always felt that God wanted us to help plant other churches.  We want to see some action in that area this year.

…  Increased outreach into the community.  We can’t do everything but we can do more.  We want to increase our outreach efforts to the city.  Meeting practical needs of the community.

…  Continuing to be who God wants us to be.  We do church in a specific way for a specific reason.  Remember God loves Cheyenne more than we do.  We want people to find a home.  The work on the church is not done.  We’ll preach the truth even when it hurts.  Our goal is that GOD will make an impact.

—  Weird week only having two days in the office.  Made today feel hurried when we got there.  Couple of oversights on our behalf.

— Another great week at Element.  Can’t wait to start our next series “21″.  I’ll get some graphics and video up on the web this week.  Pick up some invite cards to invite someone to come with you.

— I love leading you guys.  You’re a GREAT church to be a part of.

Following Christ,

Jeff

Christmas Thoughts

26 12 2008

Well, the stockings are still up and the tree is still lit, but another Christmas has come and gone.  It’s been a fun couple of days here in the Maness house.

— The week started with a trip to Denver on Sunday night.  We took the kids down to Casa Bonita (always fun) and then to the Denver Zoo to see the lights.  The lights were beautiful.  The whole zoo is lit up with Christmas lights and a couple of the animal houses are open to view animals as well.  It was pretty cold but everyone (except Jaydah) seemed to have a good time.  Here are a couple of pics from the trip.  Check out the one with Makalah standing up inside the stroller.  Her fit were on the ground and she absolutely REFUSED to be pushed any further.  It was hilarious.

—  Christmas Eve we delivered 4 dozen donuts to two different nursing homes, as we did our families part in an Element Gives Back opportunity.  Ryan (volunteer) did an INCREDIBLE job organizing the event.  We showed up at the church about 5:30 PM and Ryan had our boxes of donuts neatly packaged in a sack.  With the sack was a slip of paper that had our delivery addresses on it.  Out of 28 confirmed families to deliver we had 2 no shows.  I’m not sure how many total locations we were able to serve Christmas Eve, but it was a lot.  Thanks again Ryan for heading that up.

—  Sabrina and I watched It’s A Wonderful Life on Christmas Eve.  That movie is good every time.  LOVE the message in it.  We watched Famil Man last night.  Another great movie.

— Christmas day Sabrina and I got up to find that Jonah had set the table already for breakfast, and he also had all the presents from under the tree neatly arranged in piles for each person ready to open.  The kids had a BLAST (obviously) opening their Christmas presents and stockings.  They got some pretty cool stuff.  Jonah was super excited about his ipod shuffle and the girls all got some very cool baby strollers for their babies.  I don’t think they’ve stopped playing with them since.

— Today we just relaxed, played some games and hung out at the house.  I braved Wal-Mart (we’re actually going back tonight) cause we needed laundry detergent.

— I gave all the staff Wednesday through Saturday off.  I need to go into the office and finish my sermon tomorrow.  I am SUPER excited about this weeks message.  We’re celebrating what God has done in 2008 and looking ahead to what He wants to do at Element in the coming year(s).  I believe GREATER things are yet to come.

Remembering Christmas,

Jeff

Christmas Serving

24 12 2008

Element Church, to say I am proud of you guys is a HUGE understatement.  Our family delivered some of the adopt a mom stuff today.  The faces on the kids in that family were priceless.   As near as I could tell, there were no presents there but the ones YOU purchased.  Amazing.  All total YOU gave over $5,000 to help families in need.  We were able to add two more families because of your generous gift, totaling 6 families we were able to help.  (One single mom, a young widowed mother with young chlidren, another mom and children who are going through a VERY difficult family time,  one single dad with young kids at home, and two other families)

Pastor Grants family delieverd gifts to another one of the adoptees.  They were blown away.  We actually were able, through Elementers and Element Church, to provide some meals for people who were in need as well.  I am BLOWN AWAY by your generosity and pray God will bless those of you who gave toward it sacrificially.  We’ve seen an increase in benevolence needs come through our doors as well, and Grant has done a VERY good and DIFFICULT job and taking care of those people when they come.  On VERY few occasions have we had to turn someone down who was in need.

I am SUPER stoked about tonight.  One of our volunteers (thanks Ryan) spearheaded our Christmas Eve donut delivery.  As of yesterday we had over 30 families and 100 dozen donuts ready to be delievered to businesses and service agencies that will be open and working on Christmas Eve.  Nursing homes, hospital, Police and Fire Departments, Ambulance Service, etc. etc. etc.  We are taking servant evangelism cards with each box that say “This is our simple way of saying God loves you” on them.  I hope people who have to work on Christmas Eve will be blessed by YOUR serving them tonight.  Our family is excited and ready to deliever our donuts.  (Our kids just want to eat them)

Thank you to all who give and serve as a part of Element Church.  You are helping to make a REAL impact in peoples lives.  God bless and have an AWESOME Christmas!

Serving with you,

Jeff

Christmas Eve EVE Ruminations

24 12 2008

I can’t believe we pulled it all off last night.  For our first EVER Christmas Eve service (on the 23rd) it stinkin’ ROCKED!  First off, over 500 people came out to celebrate Christmas and worship Jesus with us.  AWESOME!  We had a lot of tickets turned back in yesterday and I know some people didn’t get tickets in time.  We had some empty seats, but not a ton.  Here are some thoughts on the event.

—  GREAT GREAT job by the band.  HOLY COW!  I can’t say enough about Jen, Brian, Morgan, Jeremiah and Adam.  Those guys put in a TON of time learning the songs and putting it all together.  They absolutely knocked it out of the park last night.

—  The worship set was so good.  Adam’s version of Joy To The World is the best I’ve heard.  O Come Let Us Adore Him.  Silent Night and I Celebrate The Day.  GREAT way to end the music portion of the service.

—  This was not your grandmas Christmas Eve service, unless (like Curtis said at the welcome), your grandma attends Element Church.  The version of Jingle Bell Rock and 12 Days of Christmas was TIGHT!

—  Our creative team blew me away.  WE HAD SNOW!  YES, snow fell from the ceiling during Sleigh Ride, God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman and Silent Night.  Amazing job!  The reaction from the congregation when snow started to fall was great.

—  The lighted Christmas trees were a GREAT touch.  Snowflakes hanging from the ceiling.  All around AWESOME job!

—  Nick, Rita, Christina and Steve.  THANK YOU for all your hard work.

— The tech team made sure EVERYTHING was flawless.  The light scenes they created for each song were perfect.  Andy, Ben, Nate, Jason and Jerry, THANK YOU for all your hard work.

— I ended the night reading the Christmas story and sharing a few thoughts from it on how I think Christmas should affect us.  In the end I challenged all of us to live our lives LOUD for Christ.  We transitioned via video into our final song, Drummer Boy, in which we created a trash can band opening that was so fun.

— My son Jonah walked down the center aisle beating on a drum, in came Adam on a BIG OLE trashcan, me on a bucket, and Dan on bucket drums.  We played a little ditty that led into a great closing version of Drummer Boy.  Dan, thanks for all your help, GREAT JOB!

—  We had lots of new faces there.  Heard of a few non Elementers who will be coming back this Sunday.  LOVE hearing that.

— Had lots of great comments on the night.  Can’t wait to start planning next years.  We’re going to need a bigger place. I know ideas are already flowing through Adams mind.

— SO EXCITED to deliver donuts tonight.  Our fam is getting ready to head that way to pick up our donuts and locations.

— Thanks to all those who came out and participated in Rockin’ Around The Tree! Hopefully video and pictures will be up this week.

Following Christ,

Jeff

Opening Sunday

23 12 2008

Here is a short highlight video of our opening Sunday in the new facility. It is definitely NOT Adam quality, but a good look at our first Sunday. Can’t believe it’s been 3 weeks already.

more about "Opening Sunday", posted with vodpod

Rockin’ Around The Tree

23 12 2008

I can’t WAIT for 7 PM.  This is going to be a Christmas Eve EVE service like I’ve never been too.  My devotional thought is done.  It’s hard to prepare an 8 minute sermon.  The set design is KILLER.  The band rehearsed last night and is going to ROCK DA HIZZY (Be REALLY REALLY good for you calendar challenged folks).  I get a small role in the production as well (have to wait and see).  We’ve been getting phone calls all week about people wanting tickets.  Should be a packed house.  If I don’t see you tonight, have a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Rockin’ Around The Tree,

Jeff
