Wall Of Names

30 09 2008

Sunday we had a cool opportunity at the end of the service to write down the names of people we want to see come to know Christ on some picture mats.  We’re going to frame them and put them up on a “wall of names” in our new location.  We’re going to create opportunities for new names to be written down and names to be crossed off.  There are some really cool things written down on these mats.

“myself”

“Nana, I want you to know Him like you once did”

“Tim, see you in Heaven bro”

“my family”

“(Names) LIfe long friends are meant to be eternal friends”

“My boss”

“Dad”

Here are the pics of each mat.

Infectious Blogging

29 09 2008

Well, my team keeps following suit here.  Katie Andrews who is now serving as our ekidz director just started a blog.  Her goal is to update it weekly with information pertaining to the ekidz and focus on what the kids are learning in their respective programs.  She’s hoping it will be a positive tool for parents to stay connected to what is going on in their kids’ spiritual formation.  Good job Katie on getting the blog going and doing your best to connect people to the ministry.  If you’re a parent at Element I encourage you to follow along.

Sunday pics

29 09 2008

Here are some pictures from Sunday.  We did something cool at the end of the service where we had some picture frame mats hung on the walls.  We challenged people during our closing song following the message to write down the name of one person they want to see come to know Jesus this next year.  We wrote first names only.  We then are going to pray for God to breakthrough to their hearts, and use us if he sees fit, to reach those people for Jesus.  I took a picture of one name that someone wrote down.  They wrote “myself”.  WOW!  Also there are some pics of our video venue.

Sunday Rumination (9-28-08)

28 09 2008

Today was a VERY interesting day.  Here are my thoughts.

— I didn’t preach today.  Over a month ago I asked Curtis to share on this Sunday because I wanted him to share about personal evangelism.

— Today was the first Sunday I was at church and got to sit and enjoy one of my teammates share the Word.  Curtis did a GREAT job steppin’ up and sharing God’s Word.

— I want to be good at giving myself needed breaks AND giving quality opportunities for guys to do what they are gifted at.  Thanks Curtis for putting in the time and effort to share with us today!

— It was cool to sit next to my daughters and wife in church.  That doesn’t happen very often.

— Pastors need to hear sermons too.  Was challenged by Curtis’ words today.

— 465 today.  First service was PACKED and made me worried that second would be too full but we were ok.

— We started a video venue for overflow today.  Since I wasn’t preaching I put myself in charge of getting that going.  It took a good 2 hours of work this morning but we got it figured out.  We are running sound right through the theater system and running video straight from our main camera into their projector system.  For our hodge podge hook up it looked and sounded great.  We will use this venue ONLY for core Elementers to free up seats and people who come in extremely late.

— I’m SO GLAD I wasn’t preaching today.  I ran around more today than I ever have before church I think.

— I can’t believe how much we get set up every week for church.  That’s how we roll I guess.

— Our team is amazing!  The volunteers who make Sunday morning happen blow me away.

— First service it came in VERY handy for some of our volunteers.  Second service we didn’t need it.

— Which by the way brings up a random thought. People who walk in 30 minutes after church starts baffles me.  Glad they are there, just weird that someone would be so late and STILL come to church.  Then again, I don’t understand people who are 5 minutes late all the time.

— Curtis had a video he downloaded form itunes he wanted to show in his sermon.  It wouldn’t play on our presentation computer becuase itunes and their crazy copyright laws.  Curtis then took my computer to the church office to try and figure something out.  Nothing worked.  He got back to the church, realized he left his notes at the office and had to go back.  NOT a good start for him on his first time preaching in one of our main worship services.

— We didn’t get the AC turned on before first service started.  Oversight on our behalf.  It was VERY hot first service.  Much better 2nd.

— We had a first at Element today.  In the middle of Curtis’ sermon in 2nd service, someone tripped on our light tree.  That wouldn’t have been too bad except the tree with all the lights fell on the row full of people in front of it.  Scream, crash, group of people trying to solve it.  Not sure how Curtis recovered but he did.  No one was seriously injured.  The young lady who tripped felt HORRIBLE but ended up ok as well.

— Had our 2nd Partnership class this afternoon.  Had a great group of people come out.  I love sharing what we believe, where we came from and seeing people join the church!

— The Vow is coming up this Sunday.  We’ll be celebrating all that God has done over the past year.  I can’t believe we are almost one year old.  We are gonna have fun this Sunday.  Make sure and be there.

— That’s it!  Enjoyed the break today and can’t wait to get back before you next week.

Following Christ,

Jeff

Investing

26 09 2008

I believe wholeheartedly in investing into the “team”.  I try to do this in a variety of ways.  One of the ways we try to invest is through learning expereinces at ministry specific conferences.  Adam had the chance to take the worship team to a conference at New Life Church in the Springs.  He has some GREAT insight to their experience over on his blog.  Check it out HERE.

Devotional Thoughts

25 09 2008

I just finished the New Testament and am working through Genesis right now.  I thought I’d blog some of my journal notes.

2 Corinthians 5:17 — God is in the transformation business.

2 Corinthians 7:8-10 — I feel that way sometimes when I preach.

2 Corinthians 9:10 — No excuse for us not to be generous.

2 Corinthians 10:18 — WOW, this one convicted me.

Galatians 5:22-23 — Are these evident in my life?  Paul tells us the Spirit produces these in us if we have the Spirit.  Hmm, I’ll stop there.

Galatians 6:3 — Love the blunt honesty of Paul here.

Ephesians 1:19-20 — This verse blows up in my heart EVERY time I read it.  How can we read that verse and NOT live in victory?  Paul’s prayer is that we would understand the power available to us.  Listen, God’s GREATEST desire is not to heal us, make us happy or make sure our church is just the way we like it.  His Son died on a cross and was RAISED FROM THE DEAD so that there might be power to OVERCOME SIN!  Forgive it AND destroy it!  Also, every time I read that verse, I remember that God is So MUCH bigger than we ever can imagine.

Philippians 2:12-13 — See it again?  Not only does God give us the desire, but the POWER to do what pleases Him.

Philippians 3:10 — I want to know that power too.  Goes along with the verse in Ephesians.

Colossians 4:5-6 — May we live this way.

Hebrews 11:25 — May I choose this also.

2 Peter 1:3 — Again, why don’t we live in victory?  According to this we’ve been given everything we need JUST through faith and believing in Him.

Revelation in three statements: (I LOVE Revelation and studying the end times.  There is SO MUCH to talk about in Revelation that I can’t do it here.  Thus, my three statements.)

1.  Jesus IS coming back

2.  We WILL be judged

3.  satan LOSES!

Still learning,

Jeff

5 Words

25 09 2008

I got a text last night from Pastor Andy following JV Fusion.  It was only 5 words long but it had eternity written in every word.  “7 kids accepted Christ tonight!”  YES!  THAT my friends is what it’s all about.  Keep up the great work Andy with our students.  I hope you Elementers know what good hands your students are in.  Praise God!

Celebrating with the angels,

Jeff
