One Prayer (Day 6)

5 07 2008

Hey Element Church!  Today is day 6 in our 28 day journey.  I hope it’s been good for you guys.  Today our prayer is “Lord, make us courageous!”  Love it!  Please pray for the churches listed on your calendar as well.  You can get a calendar HERE.  Today’s reading is Acts 6.  You can read it HERE if you’d like.

Acts 6:1 — Church complaints already?  Hmmm, not a new issue.

Acts 6:2-4 — The first church leadership delegation process.  The disciples needed to focus on prayer and teaching the word.  You may disagree with me, but I think that biblically this is the primary role of the pastor.  To seek the Lord, preach the Word and empower people to be ministers.

Acts 6:7 — The number of believers greatly increased… Was that because the disciples focused on praying/preaching/teaching and delegated the work of the ministry to others?  I think there has got to be some kind of correlation.  Love that it says “many of the Jewish priests were converted too”.  Wonder if it was any of them who so vehemently opposed them earlier?  Of all the people, the religious leaders should have been the FIRST to see Jesus as Messiah.  Yet most probably missed it.  Sad really.

Acts 6:13-14 — Sadly, this is the case for many religious people today.  Here Stephen is arrested for his faith and some men lie about him to get the leaders to arrest him.  Here was what got everyone worked up though:  “This man is always speaking against the holy Temple (our church) and against the law of Moses (our traditions).  We have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy the Temple and change the customs Moses handed down to us.”  See that?  They were more concerned with THEIR church and THEIR traditions/customs than they were with Jesus.  Folks, I want to be consumed with Jesus and never my preference, my church or my traditions.  Difficult?  Yes.  Necessary?  ABSOLUTELY.

Feeling warned,

Jeff
