Hey Element Church! Day 5 of One Prayer is upon us. Hope you’re continuing to join your voice with ours as we pray and read Scripture together. Today’s prayer is “Lord make us pure!” GREAT prayer. Please lift up the churches on the calendar as well. Get your calendar HERE if you haven’t yet. Today is Acts 5. You can read it HERE.
Acts 5:1-11 — How we handle our money is a SERIOUS issue with God. HOLY SMOKES! God didn’t care that they kept some of the money, he cared that they took credit for giving ALL their money.
Acts 5:13 — People wanted to join the church and were even attracted to the believers but couldn’t because they were scared of how other people would see them. Things haven’t changed much.
Acts 5:25 — Ever laugh when you read Scripture? “The men you put in jail are standing in the Temple, teaching the people!” Nothing was stopping the disciples. The events were almost comical. The religious leaders couldn’t figure them out. They put them in jail and God lets them out. At one point it says “they were perplexed”.
Acts 5:29 — We must obey God rather than ANY human authority. PREACH IT PETER! Dude, I absolutely love the attitude of the apostles. It was Christ even unto death. They were CONSUMED.
Acts 5:38-39 — Wisdom from the opposition. The leaders were ready to kill the disciples and a Pharisee named Gamaliel spoke up. He says “…leave these men alone. Let them go. If they are planning and doing these things merely on their own, it will soon be overthrown. But if it is from God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You may find yourselves fighting against God.” WOW! That was roughly 2000 years ago, AND IT HASN’T STOPPED!
Acts 5:40-41 — I laughed again. The Bible needs some “lol’s” in it. They didn’t kill them but flogged them and “ordered” them never to speak in the name of Jesus again. What did they do? Left the high council stinkin’ REJOICING that God counted them worthy to suffer disgrace for the name of Jesus. And THEN… THEN every day they went to the Temple AND house to house and continued to teach and preach this message “Jesus is the Messiah”. FOLKS, I’m blown away every time I read that. I’m convicted every time I read it. They didn’t hide. They didn’t whisper. They went to the Temple and house to house. MAN, this is good stuff. They literally couldn’t stop talking about it. I don’t think it means we should go house to house every day. I DO think it means that we need to be ABSOLUTELY UNASHAMED about the message of Christ, the cross and the resurrection.
Challenged,
Jeff
