Hey Element Church! WiBo Speaker #5 was Mark Dever from Capitol Hill Baptist Church. Mark BY FAR stuck out like a sore thumb (in a good way). Most of the speakers were younger, “church plant”, progressive guys. Mark and CHBC are more MUCH more traditional. Dude, knocked it out of the park though! MAN his session was good. He spoke on the value of the local church. How much he believes in it. Here are my thoughts from his session.
“The church will win. The Kingdom of God is victorious.” LOVED the way he started out his session. Speaking of the victory the Bible declares for the Kingdom of God.
“Be faithful…that is success.” WOW! So many conferences make you view success as something totally different. 1000 people…5000 people…new building… NO! Faithfulness is success!
I wrote down “Ephesians 3“. Not sure what he said about it but it must have been good. lol
“God has put Himself on display in the local church.” If we REALLY believe that, what kind of “display” are we giving of Him? GREAT question.
Speaking of not being afraid to be different from the world “God set up the church to make it intentionally different from the world.” While he said that using relevant methods are great, there ARE issues that we MUST stand out as being different.
This next quote ROCKED my world. “You can say whatever you want from the pulpit when you preach, your church will show what you mean!” HOLY COW! That dog’ll hunt right there.
Another great quote “He’s God…not our methods.”
“Pray for other churches.” YES! I’ve been challenged to do that in my own life and with our staff.
Hebrews 13:17 Challenged us that we will give an account for those who we are in authority over.
WiBo speaker #6 was John Burke from Gateway Church. I didn’t connect with his session the most. Not sure why. Just never connected. Love what Gateway is doing though. Cool story as a church too. Only two quotes I took from John, both very good though.
“How many years I labored selling a spiritual product I myself wasn’t drinking.” FOLKS, we gotta be smokin’ what we’re sellin’. (And you know what I mean so please no comments)
Speaking of the simplicity of following Christ. “Stay connected…fruit happens!” John 15:1-17
Still Learning,
Jeff
